Mariah by Janet Amundson-Splidsboel

the photo came out poorly, but this is my 2nd favorite piece

Lydia by Janet Amundson-Splidsboel
encaustic, 17x17" $550
The white stuff by her head is reflection from overhead lights

Ruby by Janet Amundson-Splidsboel
encaustic, 17x17" $550
I like it

Serenity Muse by Manuela Kalestiantz
encaustic, 16.5x16.5" $375
this one reminds me of vanilla ice cream with chocolate sauce

Gypsy Muse by Manuela Kalestiantz
encaustic, 16x21" $400
it's overly bold for me, but the longer I linger, the more I like it

Forest Muse by Manuela Kalestiantz
encaustic, 17x17" $425
I didn't even realize it was a chick at first

Unyielding Wind by Linda Womack
encaustic & photography, 13x13" $750
some of those ovals look exactly like sliced almonds

Firehole Sweep by Jane Pagliarulo
monotype w/ encaustic, 9x10" $375
can't explain why, but I liked it

Witness by Melinda Fellini
encaustic, 12x15" $600
not my typical style, but this one works for me

Memory by Betsy Bustamonte
encaustic, 12x16" $400
I like this shade of green

Ebb & Flow by Paula Blackwell
encaustic & oil, 12x18" $880
If this were 1/4 the price, I might buy it

Saturation by Karl Kaiser
encaustic, 16x8" $450
I tried to show the 3-D-ness of it... the lines are 3/8" indentations

Supported Meadow by Andrea Benson
encaustic & mixed media, 12x24" $700
I like it despite the hippie connotations

I'd never heard of encaustic before: most of them look like a shiny tile (the kind you'd use as a backsplash in a shower or kitchen), but without being perfectly smooth. According to THIS quickie video, it's about melted wax.

If the PCPA has shown art before I've either passed it by in my efficient traveling to or from the theaters, or I have forgotten it. I am a fan of this type of thing: it gives patrons free art to look at and artists an additional venue to show in. Ditto with restaurants, except I think artists must need to be very brave to post original art directly over children & catchup bottles.
