In the most powerful and influential tragedy in the English language, Hamlet wrestles with how to act in a corrupt world. This twisty, tragic tale wrestles with madness, revenge, sex, and treachery in an ominous land of fog and ghosts. But break, my heart, for I must hold my tongue. Dec 16 - Jan 22, NW Classical Theater, performing at Shoebox Theater, 2110 SE 10th, $22.I especially enjoyed the renditions of Dave Bodin for Polonious, Tom Walton for Laertes, and Butch Flowers for Hamlet.
I'm always curious to see what Shoebox will have done with its seating for each new production. They allow the companies who perform to have their choice: I know that at least 3, and perhaps 4 of the walls are open game, in addition to the open space in the middle. And yet the rows of chairs are always firmly affixed to either the ground or risers. (They even have a tidbit of balcony-type space that is occasionally utilized.)
This time I finally got around to counting: 40 seats. That confirms Shoebox as the smallest venue in my theater repertoire.
I've found that no matter when I attend NWCT: beginning/ middle/ end of run, night time or matinee, the theater is full. That tells me that the word is out: NWCT provides reliably great productions at a beggarly price.
