three to see

Here are 3 tv series (the plural of series is spelled the same) that I quite enjoyed and now recommend. Their only flaw, other than a lack of subtitles, is their small number of episodes. That's how it is with the BBC.

I've also been surprised to notice that when they do veer into "sex bomb" territory... obviously a useful device, at times, for a female con... it still usually comes off so much less LURID when the English do it. I've been trying to dissect this, and the best I can come up with is that the cleavage isn't always huge (a de-emphasis on silicone implants, perhaps?) and the style of clothes are more tailored-classy-nice instead of sleazy-tight-stripper style. The net effect feels so much more respectful, like the women are actual human beings (rather than solely icons for sexual utilization).

In an era of civil injustice and government corruption, English barrister William Garrow's acumen and honor set him apart. Each episode is drawn from Garrow's actual 18th-century cases, making this a legal procedural like no other. 2009-10

The storyline gets a bit sappy at times, but it's good over all; bleeding heart liberals will cheer & take heart in his impact on the laws of England (the drama is based on actual people & court cases of the time); and all those corsets & ponytails are very nice to look at. I also found myself playing the "spot the hairpiece" game, as almost everyone was wearing one.

Proving that good criminals only get better with age, an octogenarian con pulls off daring heists by convincing people he's a harmless old codger. He's a man who always gets his targets -- and always gives his victims exactly what they deserve. 2007

Clever-er, funner, and more complex than description suggests.

A sophisticated group of high-stakes grifters -- led by intrepid mastermind Mickey (Adrian Lester)(Robert Vaughn) -- targets only the most disreputable members of Britain's privileged class for their ingenious scams in this action-packed BBC television series. The team includes veteran con man Albert , alluring swindler Stacie (Jaime Murray), versatile jack-of-all-trades Ash (Robert Glenister) and Mickey's young protégé, Danny (Marc Warren). 2004+

Almost every episode had an ending that surprised me and left me with some feel-good.
